\"Capa\"Hip Hop is a unique genre of music in that anybody can do it \u2013 whether it\u2019s good or bad product is a matter of opinion. Remember learning nursery rhymes back in grade school? Rapping is pretty similar, but instead of talking about Humpty Dumpty, grown-ups can vocalize their emotions, experiences and real-world issues \u2013 remember N.W.A? You don\u2019t need to have formal singing lessons; you just need to have a vision, passion & conviction. However, because of the fact that it is quite easy to write a \u2018rhyme\u2019, there is a lot of bad product out in the market. And the product that is actually good, doesn\u2019t get the recognition it deserves, because it\u2019s just another tree in the forest. So before we talk about what an artist should do to reach a wider audience, let\u2019s talk about what aspiring artists shouldn\u2019t do:<\/p>\n

The Making of the Product<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n

\"Vanilla-Ice\"1. Don\u2019t imitate another popular artist \u2013 you are not who you are not.<\/strong>
\n 2. Don\u2019t make content that doesn\u2019t relate to your audience \u2013 context is key.<\/strong>
\n 3. Don\u2019t steal a sample, if it goes big, it\u2019ll come back to haunt you \u2013 be original.<\/strong>
\n 4. Don\u2019t create an image of yourself you can\u2019t uphold \u2013 shit smells.<\/strong>
\n 5. Don\u2019t release too much product, be selective \u2013 people tend to ignore constant noise.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Distribution of the Product<\/strong>:<\/h2>\n

1. Don\u2019t just put it on youtube and hope it catches fire \u2013 it won\u2019t.<\/strong>
\n 2. Don\u2019t message all your friends, their friends & their grandma\u2019s on facebook \u2013 it\u2019s spam.<\/strong>
\n 3. Don\u2019t spend your own money on advertising \u2013 it\u2019s a waste.<\/strong>
\n 4. Don\u2019t think that sending an email blast to blog sites will get it posted \u2013 it gets trashed.<\/strong>
\n 5. Don\u2019t set it and forget it, consistency is key \u2013 outta site outta mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last but not least, don\u2019t get discouraged. It takes 10,000 hours or 10 years to get to the top, nobody is an overnight sensation, nobody.
